My memory of this lock down will forever be intrinsically linked to these images, a poignant reminder...
By the time Italy was in lockdown, I was already enjoying virtual travel
through images received from my daughter. After busy months tour guiding
throughout Italy, she was spending time out to explore Peru. A shared love of
ancient history, artefacts from lost civilizations, from stone walls to vessels
and more, this provided me with a wealth of information and visual references
to work from in my studio.
A shared experience over time and space.
My memory of this lock down will forever be intrinsically linked to
these images and a poignant reminder of the unsettling prospect of an indefinite
separation when Peru then went into lockdown and it seemed she might not be
able to return for the foreseeable future.
In the spring of lockdown, long walks with my dog Bosco was taking us
past an abundance of flowers of every hue along the road side or in wooded
areas. I was holding classes on colour mixing which had been stopped mid-way
due to the virus and was missing teaching.
Bringing home some of these flowers plus pickings from gardens along the
way, I decided to paint them adding the information on colours used along with
the images.
Not sure where I'll go with this elaborate doodling, but it's been good
for the soul.
