The Molesini family, owners of both the delicatessen and wine shop in Cortona’s main square, have been fixtures in Cortona society for almost a century.
According to Marco Molesini, “…my family has been involved with the wine industry since 1937, when my grandfather Giovanni opened his first food and wine emporium.” The emporium which was passed on to Marco’s father, Guiliano, has since flourished and prospered, but it is the two grandsons, Marco and Paolo who have extended their grandfather’s legacy by opening a second shop – Enoteca Molesini - dedicated to fine wines and with over 1,500 labels to choose from.

In 1999, Marco acquired the title and qualification of sommelier, a craft he has put to good use over the last 20 years: Over the course of a year, he will visit over 80 Italian wineries – both the large and the small – searching out new, unknown wines to tempt the palates of his clientele.
Private wine tastings can be requested, as can guided wine tours and for the more passionate wine buffs, there is membership to the exclusive Molesini wine club, set up in 2017, where special, selected wines not available outside Italy can be purchased, and shipped world-wide.
The Molesini influence does not stop there: Marco has established a school of Viticulture and Enology at the University of Georgia - which has held a Cortona campus for over 40 years – and together with Paolo are the co-founders of The Wine Dine and Shine evenings, a weekly wine and gastronomic event which runs from the spring through to the fall. The dinners, often booked to capacity weeks (or even months!) in advance, combine a choice selection of fine wines, fine dining and a bit of Del Brenna shining.
