Rubbish Collection

Comune of Cortona

In Cortona, residents separate waste into categories such as plastic/aluminum, paper, organic, and glass, which are collected on scheduled days. General waste (undifferentiated) is also collected separately, often at different times or from a different location than recyclables. Specific bins are provided for glass, while other materials are collected from bins placed on the street for scheduled pick-up or through access-controlled proximity bins. Access to these bins is with a card, 6Toscana and this can be applied for and collected from the comune.
Rubbish categories are as follows and the colour code for the bin/sacks received from the comune
Categories: The waste collection system in Cortona divides waste into categories:
plastic and aluminum - yellow sack
paper - paper sack
organic (food waste) - brown bin
glass - green bin
general (non recyclable) waste - black bin, grey sack
Bins and sacks are provided by the comune and additional sacks can be collected from the central collection point in Camucia.
For clarification of what goes into which sack/bin, the comune and SeiToscana have produced a leaflet:
Cortona and the surrounding areas have weekly collections on Monday, Wednesday and Friday’s with glass collection in the localities of Cortona, every other week (twice a month).
Dates of this collection can be viewed on the comune webpage and all information can be viewed here for different ‘localities’
Located in Camucia, is the “green island” isola ecologica del Biricocco
where you can take larger items and also special collection for electro domestic from collection points can be organised by contacting SeiToscana directly, getting an order number and information on collection points and time.
